Crows in the Park: A Tunnel Book

Gouache on coloured paper, done for a school assignment and inspired by my local park and a short poem I wrote. Each layer’s top features crow silhouette as if holding onto the top of the page and the tunnel of the book is a very as one looks further and further into the park. The coloured paper is a gradients of greens and was obtained at opus. I hand cut out each layer that creates the ‘tunnelling’ effect.

What is that? I can see a glimmer, quickly surrounded, a great cacophony of caws low, high, loud and long

A swarm, a council, a curiosity, a murder of crows now surround the object more and more join every moment

Carolling and carrying on trying  to get closer

The noise the crowding seem to on to infinity evermore

And then a click, all eyes turn to a glass lens and shutter,

And off, they take wing, a flutter and all that’s left is oil shiny feathers

Treasure’s taken and silence is left in it a place.
